An Awesome Responsibility: Families that Love God

By Brandon Cutshall, Kid City Director

At Gospel Community Church, we have families of all types who love God and want to make Him known in their homes. Followers of Jesus will parent with discipleship at the forefront of their minds; it is in seeking Christ themselves and being dependent on Him that they can then guide their children towards Him. They need their church and their people to help them, love them, and keep them accountable to what God has called them to as parents.

The mission of Family Ministries is to partner with families to train up a generation of disciples who love God, grow in community, and reach out with the love of Christ. A meaningful way we get to do this is through Family Dedication! In this moment, parents recognize that their children are a gift from God (Psalm 127:3), and they dedicate themselves to pointing their kids to Him. By going before our church, these families are saying: “I want my kids to know, love, and follow Jesus, and I need your help in doing so.” We are all called to disciple the next generation, so there is a responsibility for all of us to come alongside the parents of our church.

The greatest thing that we can help them with is reminding them to faithfully obey God’s commands while being faithfully dependent on His power. God has given parents an awesome responsibility to care for their kids, and they have to work hard following this calling. They must also trust in God to give them the power to follow His will. God loves each of our kids deeply and can use us specifically to make that known to them. Be in prayer for these families as they dedicate themselves to centering their families around the gospel of Jesus and consider how you can be a part of discipling the next generation!

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9

Join us in celebrating and praying with several families this Sunday, November 3, at the Rivermont campus!
